Sandy, A simple and often effective treatment for vertigo that you can consider is the Epley maneuver and it is free and you can do it yourself. Here is a link that explains how to do it :

My father had that problem and went to The Balance Center, a part of the Ears, Nose and Throat doctors offices. The problem is the crystals in the inner ear are out of place. He was given a simple movement done sitting on the edge of the bed. Dad was in his late eighties and the exercise was fast and easy. The treatment is noninvasive and it works. You can find it by googling vertigo exercise. The dizziness went away snd never returned. I do wish you the best.
